On May 7th the European commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Joaquin Almunia will launch the “EMU @ 10” report on the achievements of the first 10 years of the European Monetary Union (EMU).
In order to cover this important meeting, we have the pleasure to invite you to participate in the upcoming ECFIN Seminar for Journalists from the Euro Area which will take place in Brussels on May 6 – 7, 2008.
On May 6th, Klaus Regling, Director general of DG ECFIN of the European Commission, will present to the participants the achievements of the 10 years of the EMU in an exclusive meeting.
The briefing will mainly be focused on the report which will include an in depth analysis of the functioning role of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) over the last decade and to assess the challenges we expect to face in the coming years. It will also be an opportunity for assessing the current situation of the EU economy.
During the presentation of the report, on May 7th, the European Commission is expected to announce if Slovakia could become the 16th nation to adopt the euro from next year.
The seminar (conducted in English) is organised by the European Journalism Centre (EJC) in cooperation with DG Economic and Finance of the European Commission. This event is financed by the European Commission and is aimed at journalists specializing in economic and financial issues for Euro Zone Member States and the Opt-out EU countries.
