On the 1st January 2009 the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union will start. The current global financial crisis and other hot issues will stay in the agenda of the Presidency.

In order to prepare in advance the next EU Presidency the European Journalism Centre in co-operation with the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission are organising a special three-day seminar on the forthcoming Czech EU Presidency. The briefing is especially tailored to journalists covering economic and financial affairs from the Czech Republic.

The briefing (conducted in English) will take place in Brussels from the 2nd till the 5th of December 2008. It will focus on the economic agenda of the new EU Presidency. It will also analyse the EU’s response to the financial crisis and the role of the Euro in the stability of the European markets.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) and the press conference of the President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mr. Jean-Claude Trichet, following the Governing Council meeting of the ECB in Brussels. They will also meet key players of the EU institutions, members of the Brussels-based press corps and independent experts. An exclusive breakfast with a Member of the Executive Board of the ECB is also scheduled.

Please note that travel, accommodation and some meals will be covered by the European Commission. The participants will arrive in Brussels the 1st December in the evening and they will depart the 5th December in the morning.

České předsednictví v Radě EU: program v oblasti hospodářské politiky

Evropské novinářské centrum a Evropská Komise - Generální ředitelství pro hospodářské a finanční záležitosti společně organizuji třídenní seminář, který je zaměřen na nadcházející předsednictví České republiky v Radě EU.

Seminář (veden v anglickém jazyce) je určen především pro české novináře, kteří se věnují hospodářským a finančním otázkám.
