EP Elections for women magazines & gender news desks
10 May - 11 May 2009, Brussels (EP Elections 2009)

The European Journalism Centre (EJC) is organising a two-day seminar, ahead of June’s European Elections, on the pressing question of continuing absence of women from leadership positions in Europe despite EU's good legislative record on gender equality.
In the meanwhile, the EU is about to appoint new faces for its top jobs but it is highly unlikely that one of them be a woman. In 50 years there has never been a female President of the Commission and only two female Presidents of the Parliament.
The seminar, co-organised by the European Commission and the EJC, is scheduled for 11-12 May in Brussels.
It will provide selected participants - women journalists or journalists with an interest on gender issues - the opportunity to discover more in-depth the current state of play of the European policies affecting women by the means of a meeting with EC Vice-President Margot Wallstrom and by open and free discussions with key EU officials and politicians, civil society representatives and independent experts.
