The economic agenda of the Spanish Presidency of the EU

The forthcoming Spanish Presidency of the EU will have to face many challenges on the economic agenda as how to restore confidence in the financial markets, combat the negative impact of the crisis and create long-term solutions for sustainable growth and employment. A key issue is therefore to discuss how Member States can regain order in public finances.
In order to discuss these issues the European Journalism Centre (EJC) is organising, in co-operation with DG Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission, a special four-day seminar especially tailored to journalists from Spain specializing in economic and financial issues.
The briefing (conducted in Spanish and English) will take place in Brussels from the 1st till the 4th of December 2009 and it will focus on the economic agenda of the Spanish Presidency. It will also analyse the EU’s response to the economic crisis and the role of the Euro in the stability of the European markets.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet European institutions experts in Brussels and attend the press conference of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN). They will also meet members of the Brussels-based press corps and independent experts on economy and finances.

La Presidencia española de la Unión Europea tendrá que hacer frente a múltiples desafíos como restaurar la confianza de los mercados financieros, combatir los efectos negativos de la crisis y crear soluciones a largo plazo para asegurar crecimiento sostenible y más empleo. Uno de los temas claves será como los Estados Miembros de la UE ponen orden en sus cuentas públicas.
Para tratar estas cuestiones el Centro Europeo de Periodismo está organizando junto a la Dirección General de Economía y Finanzas de la Comisión Europea un seminario de cuatro días de duración dedicado a periodistas españoles que cubren economía.
El seminario tendrá lugar en Bruselas del 1 al 4 de diciembre de 2009 y tendrá como objetivo tratar las prioridades de la agenda económica de la Presidencia española. También analizará la respuesta de la UE a la crisis económica y el rol del euro en la estabilidad de los mercados.
Los periodistas tendrán la oportunidad de reunirse con expertos de las instituciones europeas en Bruselas y asistir al Consejo de Economía y Finanzas (ECOFIN) que tendrá lugar esa semana en Bruselas. También se reunirán con periodistas y expertos en economía.
