The Global role of the Euro for Western Balkans
11 July - 13 July 2010, Brussels ( Economic and Financial Policy 2010)

More than ever, Europe’s monetary union is being tested to its limits. Will the tensions prove temporary? Might they bring improvements? Or will they destroy the euro-area?
Answers to these questions should be in everybody's mind when Western Balkans journalists gather in Brussels from 12 to 14 July to attend the upcoming European Journalism Centre-European Commission joint seminar on economic and monetary affairs.
During a series of briefings specially tailored for journalists from economic, financial & business desks, participants will have the opportunity to meet EU politicians and officials along with independent experts.
Selected participants will also meet with members of the Brussels-based press corps. They will arrive in Brussels on the 11th July and will leave on the 14th afternoon or evening.
The EU has repeatedly reaffirmed at the highest level its commitment for the European perspective of the Western Balkans (South East Europe), provided they fulfill the "accession criteria".
EU’s main objective for the region is to export peace, stability and prosperity to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Croatia.
The European Union’s enlargement process is taking place against the backdrop of a deep and widespread recession, with the financial and economic crises affecting both EU and candidate countries (potential or official candidates).
