07 February - 08 February 2011, Budapest (Catalan media)

Hungary will set the European Union's agenda during the first half of 2011. Several challenges await the Eastern European country. The number one issue is likely to be how to exit from the economic crisis and how to create sustainable growth. Also on the itinerary will be the accession negotiations with Croatia and Iceland; the harmonisation of national efforts to support the nearly 12 million European citizens who are Roma; and the potential enlargement of the Schengen area with Romania and Bulgaria, provided they meet the criteria.

In order to shine some light on all these issues and provide a better understanding of the Hungarian EU Presidency, the European Journalism Centre, in co-operation with the EU Representation in Barcelona, will organise a seminar exclusively tailored for 15 Catalan journalists working for media ranging from TV and radio to written press and news wires.

The briefing will take place in Budapest the 7th and 8th of February 2011. During the seminar the participating professionals will take part in meetings with high-level politicians, the EU Representation in Budapest, leading independent experts, experienced journalists and members of civil society groups. They will also hear viewpoints on the challenges Hungary faces and will obtain first-hand information from local authorities during a visit to an EU-funded project in the Hungarian capital or its outskirts.

Please note that the working language of the seminar will be Hungarian with Spanish interpretation.
