Platform Against Poverty: Policy briefing for journalists
12 May - 13 May 2011, Brussels, Belgium (Europe 2020 seminars)

In 2008, more than 80 million people across the European Union lived below the poverty line, a situation that has been further worsened by the economic crisis and many countries have seen public budgets reducing. New innovative and participative actions are needed to address poverty.
Tailored for 30 journalists coming from the EU-27, this seminar will focus on the Europe 2020 Strategy, with an emphasis on one of its flagships initiatives pertaining to inclusive growth: the European Platform Against Poverty.
Held in Brussels, the seminar will bring together EU officials, independent experts and journalists to discuss issues relating to EU headline poverty reduction target through combating social exclusion and promoting social justice and fundamental rights.
The two days event is organised by the European Journalism Centre in co-operation with the European Commission.
The organisers cover the travel arrangements, accommodation and meals for the duration of the programme. The event is open for journalists from national print, broadcast and online media from the EU-27.
