Coinciding with the beginning of the EU budget negotiations for 2014-2010, the second half of 2011 will see Poland taking on the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first time in history.

Already the improvement of European economic governance and the return to sustainable economic growth shape up as major priorities for the Polish EU presidency, thus becoming key factors in determining its success.

Amid this economic framework, the European Journalism Centre and the European Commission’s DG Economic and Financial Affairs are putting together the seminar The Economic Priorities of the Polish Presidency, due to take place 17-19 May in Brussels.

Specifically aimed at Polish journalists covering economic issues, this 3-day programme will enable the participants to meet and discuss with EU high-ranking officials, policy makers and experts from Brussels-based think tanks.

Topping off the briefings will be the attendance to the Brussels Economic Forum. In its 12th edition this platform for debate on economic issues will bring together top-level decision makers and key players from government authorities, European Institutions, international organisations and financial institutions. Among the main personalities to take part in it there will be EC President, José Manuel Durão Barroso, Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Olli Rehn, IMF Managing Director, Dominique Strauss-Kahn and Germany’s Minister of Finance, Wolfgang Schäuble.
