Boosting Energy for Sustainable Development
15 April - 16 April 2012, Brussels (DEVCO 2012 )

Nearly two billion people worldwide have no access to modern energy services. On average, the per capita electricity consumption in developing countries is barely one tenth of that used in the European Union. Sub-Saharan Africa is a dramatic example of inequality - with over 80% of the population having limited access to modern forms of energy - large numbers of people in South Asia and Latin America also live under similar conditions.
The EU's external aid providers try to combine access to energy; necessary for the achievement of the MDGs, with an increased political awareness among decision makers on the role energy can play in sustainable development.
To know more about the expected outcomes of this strategic goal, EU journalists are invited to attend an EJC/EuropeAid briefing - in concomitance with the EU Sustainable Energy Summit - from 16-17 April in Brussels.
During the two-day event, participants will be able to meet with policy makers from the EU Institutions, leading independent experts and experienced Brussels-based correspondents.
The organisers will cover travel expenses, accommodation and most meals.
