The European Journalism Centre and the European Commission invite you to attend the two-day seminar on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Erasmus programme in Copenhagen on 8 and 9 May 2012. The seminar will be held alongside the conference "Celebrating Erasmus 25 years past achievements and future perspectives" organised by the European Commission and the Danish EU Presidency.

The seminar, which will gather 30 journalists from European print, broadcast and online media, will discuss the impact the Erasmus programme has had on European higher education, and look at its future perspectives.

Young people have been hit particularly hard by the recent social and economic crisis. According to latest EU figures, five million young Europeans are looking for a job. Many of them will miss opportunities because they lack the right qualifications or experience. In response, the European Commission proposed a new EU programme for education, training, youth and sport - Erasmus for All. It is based on the premise that investing in education and training is the key to unlocking people\'s potential, regardless of their age or background. It helps them to increase their personal development, gain new skills and boost their job prospects.

Based on this, our seminar themes will address some of today’s main challenges:

- Developing modern education and training systems in Europe;
- Promoting international student and trainee mobility; and
- Improving the employment situation of young people in Europe.

The seminar will be moderated by Inger Munk, Head of International Department at the Danish School of Media and Journalism.

Invited speakers include Androulla Vassiliou, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth; Jan Truszczynsky, Director General for Education and Culture, European Commission; Doris Pack, Member of the European Parliament and President of the Culture and Education Committee; Morten Østergaard, Danish Minister for Education as well as representatives of UNESCO, the World Bank, European Association of International Education; European Students’ Union and European Youth Forum.

A more detailed seminar programme will be available shortly. Please note that travel and accommodation will be covered by the European Commission.
