Seminar for EU correspondents in South Africa
14 August - 15 August 2012, Johannesburg/Durban (EuropeAid 2012)

Discover the EU development projects in South Africa! The European Journalism Centre in cooperation with the European Commission and the EU Delegation in South Africa will select 12 journalists to see the most interesting EU actions on the spot.
The overall objective of the EU and South Africa cooperation is to reduce the poverty and inequalities in the country. Total EU aid for 2007-2013 amounts to 980 million euros.
Selected journalists will be given the possibility to discuss the EU support with the EU Delegation, local representatives, NGOs and other interesting guests. After a first session in Johannesburg, the journalists will be given an opportunity to visit key EU projects in the KwaZulu-Natal province, in and around Durban.
KZN Province exhibits many of the complex socio-economic problems facing South Africa: it has
a highly rural population, is rapidly urbanizing, has high HIV/Aids prevalence and a large young
population.
This seminar is planned for 15-16 August (with option to fly back from Durban to OR Tambo on 17 August).
EU correspondents and journalists writing for EU media who are based in South Africa (Pretoria and Johannesburg) are invited to apply for this seminar as soon as possible. The organisers will cover travel, accommodation and meals during the trip. For more information, please contact Sonia Mihalikova at [email protected]
