The EU single market celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2012. Over the last 20 years, the internal market of the EU has contributed to creating jobs and making Europe increasingly competitive. People, goods, services and money move around the EU freely, however, integration still has some way to go while challenges to deliver social progress and growth are still prevailing in the aftermath of the financial and economic crisis.

The European Journalism Centre, in cooperation with the European Commission (DG MARKT), will organize a one-day tailor made seminar for 30 EU journalists/bloggers to cover the opening events of the Single Market Week, a pan-European event organized across EU member states between 15-20 October 2012.
Among the speakers are Michel BARNIER, Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, José Manuel BARROSO, President of the European Commission, Martin SCHULZ, President of the European Parliament, Herman VAN ROMPUY, President of the European Council (tbc), MEPs, representatives of consumer organisations and entrepreneurs.
Journalists will have the opportunity for interviews.

The seminar will be held in Brussels on 15 October 2012.

The organizers will cover flights, accommodation and meals during the programme.
