ECFIN seminar - Covering the Eurogroup and ECOFIN meetings
12 November - 13 November 2012, Brussels (ECFIN 2012)

Norway unexpectedly announced on Friday 12th October the rare piece of news that the EU was given the Nobel Peace Prize for over six decades of contribution to peace, democracy and human rights in Europe. And yet, at the same time, news from Tokyo could not be but more alarming for the euro crisis.
The annual meeting of the IMF and the World Bank came to an end with the IMF and Europe being still far from finding a common formula to tackle Greece’s debt crisis. And so the debate stems on whether debt-burdened countries like Greece, Portugal or Spain should take more time to reduce their budget deficits or if reversing the course on agreed deficit, as Germany defends, would only damage their credibility.
With this and other paramount decisions hanging in the balance, the European Journalism Centre (EJC), in cooperation with the European Commission’s Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN), is organising a seminar November 12-13 for 18 journalists.
Having the Eurogroup and the ECOFIN meetings in those very same days, participants to this seminar will have the opportunity to attend them both. By the same token, the two-day programme will benefit from having EU officials and independent experts commenting on decisions likely to reach a climax on them.
Please note that only journalists covering economic and financial affairs shall be eligible to apply.
Flights, accommodation and most of the meals during the programme will be covered by the organisers.
