Despite the current economic crisis, global air transport is a strategically important sector that makes a vital contribution to the EU's overall economy and employment.

The aviation sector supports 5.1 million jobs, contributes €365 billion, or 2.4% to European GDP and, over the long term, is expected to grow by around 5% annually until 2030.

To tackle the challenges of common aviation policy, the European Journalism Centre is organising a media seminar in cooperation with the European Commission’s DG Transport. This one-day event aims at providing journalists from EU-27 Member states specialised in the sector with the current developments at policy level striving to make the EU the safest air space in the world.

The Single European Sky project, passenger rights, safety measures and the Emissions Trading System will be amongst the topics under scrutiny and debate with high-level experts from the European Commission and external representatives from the Airline industry.

An exclusive meeting with the Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas will be foreseen along with the possibility of bilateral interviews.

The organisers will cover travel, accommodation and most meals.

Please note that journalists specialised in the subject will be given priority in the selection process.

This seminar is organised with financial and organisational support from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport.
