Since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, the neighbouring countries have been hosting hundreds of thousands of refugees. Facing lack of food, healthcare and general assistance, these countries are asking for a bigger support from the international community. The European Commission recently promised an additional € 100 million to the already allocated € 100 million of humanitarian funding to cope with the emergency situation.

12 selected journalists from the EU-27 will have the chance to travel to Jordan and Lebanon and meet representatives of different organisations working on the field, such as: ECHO, UNRWA, UNHCR, UNICEF and Save the Children.

The four-day programme also includes a visit to the Zaatari refugee camp in northern Jordan, which opened in July 2012 and is now home to more than 70.000 Syrians.

The organisers will cover travel, accommodation and most meals.

Please note that journalists specialised in the subject will be given priority in the selection process. For more information, contact Desiree Ketabchi at ketabchi@ejc.net.

This seminar is organised with financial and organisational support from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection.
