As one of the most prestigious competitions of its kind, the European Inventor Award each year pays tribute to the creativity of inventors, whose quest for new ideas drives technological progress and economic growth, shapes our society and improves our daily lives. The award not only gives inventors the recognition they deserve, it also encourages future innovation.

This year is the 40th anniversary of the European Patent Convention from which the European Patent Office (EPO) was born. The event, which takes place in Amsterdam, will feature a prestigious award ceremony and bring together some of the world’s brightest innovators, along with key decision makers in business, politics, media and the sciences.

On this occasion, the EPO and the European Journalism Centre are pleased to invite 30 media professionals to cover this year’s award ceremony and to attend a press event organised alongside of the European Inventor Awards. The press trip will take place in Amsterdam on 27 and 28 May 2013.

The programme will include a panel discussion on "Promoting innovation to enhance Europe’s competitiveness" with Philips and the EPO and an in-depth session on the Unitary Patent and Unified Patent Court. The agenda will also consist of company visits to some of the most innovative Dutch technological sites, a networking cocktail with this year’s award nominees, European industry and national representatives and a seat at the award ceremony.

The journalists will also have the exclusive opportunity to attend a press conference with Michel Barnier, European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, Benoît Battistelli, President, European Patent Office and Sander Dekker, State Secretary, Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

Please note that specialised reporters covering technology, industry and innovation will be given priority.

The organisers will cover the travel and accommodation costs. Participants are expected to arrive in Amsterdam on 26 May. Departure time is planned for 28 May in the late afternoon.

If you are interested to attend the event, please register online and include a short letter of motivation.
