Discover EU development projects in Guatemala

03 October - 05 October 2013, Guatemala (DEVCO 2013)

Discover EU development projects in Guatemala!

In Guatemala, the poor - an estimated 56% of the population – often have very limited access to health and education services and are exposed to food insecurity.
The European Commission supports Guatemala in its endeavours to tackle these problems by funding projects that target social cohesion, security, economic growth and trade.

In early October EU Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs will be visiting Guatemala. The European Commission in cooperation with the European Journalism Centre invites 12 journalists to be part of this visit and experience the most compelling EU projects on the ground.

The seminar is planned for 3 - 5 October 2013 with the arrival in Guatemala City scheduled for 2 October and the departure on 6 October (with the possible option of flying back on a later date).

The three-day programme includes visits to various EU funded projects as well as meetings and discussions on current issues with high representatives of the EU Delegation and with representatives of local media and civil society. The programme also foresees an exclusive press conference with EU Commissioner Andris Piebalgs and possible interviews.

A more detailed seminar programme will be available shortly.

The organisers will cover travel, accommodation and meals during the trip.

EU correspondents based in the region and journalists from EU28 are invited to apply for this seminar as soon as possible. Please note that specialised journalists will be given priority.
