Since the end of the 90s the European industrial base has declined. This process accelerated with the crisis and now the EU GDP related to manufacturing has fallen to 15.1%. There is still a long way to go to achieve the 20% target set by the Commission in its strategy to reindustrialise Europe proposed in October 2012.

On 22 January, the European Commission will announce plans for an industrial renaissance in view of the upcoming European Council which, for the first time, will be dedicated to industry.

In order to raise awareness on the European strategy to reindustrialise Europe, the European Journalism Centre (EJC), in cooperation with the European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry, is organizing a media seminar for a specialised group of 70 journalists from the EU28. This event will take place in the European Commission in Brussels on 21 and 22 January 2014.

The seminar will comprise of a series of briefings given by top-level officials of DG Enterprise and Industry; Cabinet members of Vice-President Antonio Tajani as well as other high-level Commission officials. On January 22nd there will be also a press conference with Vice-President Tajani in which the new Communication will be presented.

The journalists will have opportunities for interviews with the Vice-President Tajani. There will also be time to network with various speakers as well as fellow colleagues.

The organisers will cover travel, accommodation and some meals.
