Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis almost 3 years ago, UN figures show that more than 2.4 million Syrian people have fled the country. In Jordan alone, the number of registered refugees has reached over 590,000. To date, over € 2.6 billion has been allocated for the Syrian crisis from the EU and its Member States, with more than €1 billion of this coming from the EU humanitarian aid budget and other EU funding instruments.

In cooperation with the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) department, the European Journalism Centre is organising a press visit on 3-6 March 2014 (including travel) in Jordan on the occasion of the third anniversary of the conflict. The selected 12 journalists from EU Member States will have an opportunity to gather personal stories from Syrian refugees in a refugee camp and an urban environment, as well as meet with ECHO field experts, officials from the Jordanian ministries and humanitarian aid workers from partner organisations.

The organisers will cover travel, accommodation and most meals.

Please note that journalists specialised in the subject and feature writers will be given priority in the selection process.
