Covering the EU maritime policy

07 March - 07 March 2014, Brussels (DG MOVE)

Maritime transport is essential in ensuring security of energy; food and commodities supply for European countries, being subsequently the main vehicle for European imports and exports to the rest of the world.

In a one-day briefing for media outlets from the European Union, 30 journalists will have the opportunity to hear directly from European experts on the latest developments in the field of maritime policy.

The seminar will delve into the topic of blue economy and look at the growth perspectives in the maritime industry. The journalists will get insights into maritime transport and logistics, maritime safety, maritime security, and ports. A panel on the environmental protection of EU maritime industry and policy will bring together EC officials and representatives of non-governmental organisations in a discussion about the way EU maritime affairs are managed.

The journalists will have an exclusive occasion to engage in a dialogue with Siim Kallas, Vice-president of the European Commission and EU Commissioner for Transport.

The briefing will take place in Brussels on 7 March 2014.

The event is organised by the European Journalism Centre (EJC) on behalf of the Directorate-General for Transport (DG MOVE) of the European Commission (EC).

Priority will be given to journalists covering maritime affairs, transport, and environment.

The journalists will be expected to arrive in Brussels on the 6th of March in the afternoon and depart back to their home countries on the 7th of March in the evening.

The organisers will cover international travel costs, accommodation and meals in Brussels.
