The European Journalism Centre, in cooperation with the European Commission?s DG Environment, invites 15 Latvian journalists to participate in the seminar "Covering the Latvian EU Presidency: Environmental Priorities", taking place in Brussels on 26-27 February.

European?s economy and the state of the environment are interconnected. Recent years have seen employment continue to grow in the environmental goods and services sector. This is an expanding market globally, offering substantial export potential.

Having that in mind, participants to this event will be briefed on what it means for Latvia to hold the EU presidency. A special emphasis will be put on environmental matters and the relevant impacts they will have on jobs and growth creation.

The event is exclusively catered for specialist and expert Latvian journalists in the field of environment.

The selected participants will get a unique opportunity to meet EU Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Karmenu VELLA and have the opportunity to discuss EU environmental and climate change policies with senior EU officials, policy makers and experts from Brussels-based think tanks and international NGOs.

The organisers will cover flight, accommodation and most meals. Interpretation in English and Latvian will be provided during the programme.
