Covering European Inventor Award 2015 in Paris

10 June - 11 June 2015, Paris (EPO European Inventor Award)

The 10th jubilee edition of the European Inventor Award will be presented by the European Patent Office (EPO) on 11 June 2015 at the Palais Brongniart (La Bourse) in Paris, France. At the award ceremony, 15 inventors in five nomination categories will be honoured for their outstanding contribution to technical progress and economic growth, and five of them will be distinguished as winners of the European Inventor Award. In addition, a Popular prize will be awarded for the second time to one of the 15 nominees. this year's European finalists represent France, Sweden, the Netherlands, UK, Latvia and Switzerland.

The French Minister of the Economy, Emmanuel Macron is likely to attend the ceremony.

The annual European Inventor Award pays tribute to the creativity of inventors, who have made a special contribution to social, technological and economic progress. Inventors, who make our existence easier, save lives or constitute a quantum leap in research. They create value and jobs. It is a matter of fact that many landmark inventions are "made in Europe". Every year, Europe is the source of some 94 000 patent applications filed with the EPO. And a strong European patent system provides a good regulatory environment for creative minds - and for the protection of technical innovation in nearly all walks of life.

For the third time in a row, the EPO and the European Journalism Centre are pleased to invite 30 media professionals to cover the award ceremony and to attend a press event organised alongside the European Inventor Award. The press trip will take place in Paris on 10 and 11 June 2015. The programme will include panel discussions on the increasingly important role patents play in innovation and economic performance, analyse recent trends in patenting in different EU countries and look at intellectual property strategies at Europe's public research institutes. The agenda will also consist of fireside chats with this year's finalists, the EPO President Benoit Battistelli and EPO's leading experts as well as jury members, who judge proposals for the European Inventor Award representing international authorities in the fields of business, science, academia and research and former award winners.

Journalists will attend a networking reception with this year's award finalists, European industry and national representatives and a seat at the gala award ceremony, where the winners will be announced.

Please note that specialised reporters covering technology, industry and innovation will be given priority. Participants are expected to arrive in Paris on 9 June. Departure time is planned for 11 June in the late afternoon.

The organisers will cover flight, accommodation and some meals.

If you are interested to attend the event, please apply online. For more information about the press trip, please contact EJC Project Manager, Ms Biba Klomp ([email protected]).
