On behalf of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA), the European Journalism Centre (EJC) invites 30 journalists from the EU's 28 Member States to participate in the seminar: Capital Markets Union (CMU): what, why, how?. This event will take place on 9th June in Brussels following the high-level conference "Building a Capital Markets Union: Challenges and Priorities" on Monday 8 June

The CMU is a long-term initiative of the European Commission to unlock funding for Europe's businesses with the creation of a true single market for capital in the EU?s 28 member states. This landmark project aims to boost jobs and growth in the EU within the context of President Juncker's Investment Plan for Europe.

On February 18th 2015, the Commission launched a three-month consultation round, known as a Green Paper, whose outcome will shape an Action Plan to set out the roadmap for achieving a CMU by 2019. Journalists attending this seminar will receive first hand information on the preparatory work in the lead up to this Plan, which the Commission aims to adopt in September.

Coinciding with the three key challenges of the Action Plan, the main subject areas of this seminar are as follow:
- How to improve access to financing for all businesses across Europe
- How to increase and diversify the sources of funding from investors in the EU
- How to make the markets work more effectively and efficiently

In addition to background meetings on the aforementioned topics with DG FISMA officials, the organisers envisage the participation of EU Commissioner for Financial Services, Jonathan Hill.

This event is exclusively catered for specialist and expert journalists in the field of business and finance and mainly working in print media. Only a few vacancies will be reserved for broadcast journalists.

Please note that attendance to the conference on June 8th is compulsory for those journalists joining this seminar.

The organisers will cover flight, accommodation and most meals.
