In cooperation with the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) department, the European Journalism Centre is organising a press visit for 10 EU journalists on 29 June-3 July to Kiev and Ukrainian Government held areas of Eastern Ukraine.

The field visits will be based in Mariupol and take place in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has left millions of people in need of humanitarian aid due to the combined impact of fighting, displacement and poverty. The foreseen visit will enable journalists to become familiar with the EU's role in this complex crisis, and to gather human interest stories in a context where a global strategic challenge is reflected in the daily lives of families, individuals and the plight of refugees (IDPs). Meetings with aid recipients, field experts, civil society representatives and humanitarian workers from local partner organisations are foreseen.

The purpose of the visit is to look at the challenges and achievements of the EU's presence and impact as a humanitarian actor in Ukraine while underlining the coordinated and coherent response of the EU and its Members States.

The organisers will cover travel, accommodation, most meals and insurance.

Please note that journalists specialised in the region and feature writers will be given priority in the selection process. A knowledge of Ukrainian/Russian would also be an advantage.

Interested journalists should apply online as soon as possible as places are limited.
