2015, A Key Year for Development

30 September - 02 October 2015, Brussels (DEVCO 2013)

In cooperation with the Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development of the European Commission, the European Journalism Centre invites 12 journalists from EU28 to join a press seminar on 1-2 October 2015 in Brussels, Belgium.

The year of 2015 is a landmark year for a number of reasons. It is the year where the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are reaching the conclusion, and a post-2015 development framework, namely the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Financing for Development are being discussed and to be agreed upon by international community.

In addition, the EU has dedicated the year of 2015 as the European Year for Development. As the first ever European Year to focus on external relations , 2015 has shed the light on the role of the EU as an important global player in the field of aid and development, and how its cooperation efforts benefit the EU and people in the developing world. As the year is reaching the final stage and many programmes are implemented in the field and at local, national and regional levels, it is a time to look back and assess where the EU and the world stand in the process of achieving sustainable development at the global level.

With this background, the seminar will provide insight into how a new international framework will tackle the pressing global issues in order to grow more sustainable economies and societies. The programme will also look at important key topical themes in international development; for example, migration and gender.

The seminar is planned for 1-2 October, with arrival on 30 September in Brussels and departure on 3 October. Travel, accommodation (3 nights) and some meals will be covered and arranged by the organisers.
