In cooperation with the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO), the European Journalism Centre (EJC) is organising a 3-day press visit for 8 EU journalists to Jordan from 18-20 January 2017.

Through its European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations' department (ECHO), the European Commission provides life-saving assistance covering areas such as: food and nutrition, shelter, healthcare, water and sanitation. It is carried out in partnership with UN agencies, NGOs and international organisations.

This media trip aims to raise awareness and build understanding about different projects targeting Syrian refugees in Jordan, especially women and children, by showcasing the value of humanitarian aid and the difference the EU makes for the most vulnerable.

The press trip will start in Amman, where the journalists will take part in a short briefing with representatives from the ECHO Jordan team, followed by visits to the Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps and other ECHO-funded projects in Jordan, where the journalists will be able to talk directly with the beneficiaries.

In addition to reporting from the field, this press visit will give the journalists the possibility to hear from and discuss EU humanitarian aid with humanitarian partners working on the ground, national authorities and EU officials.

Arrival in Amman is planned on 17 January and departure on 21 January. A more detailed seminar programme will be available shortly.

Please note that journalists from print and online media outlets specialised in gender issues, migration and humanitarian crises will be given priority in the selection process. Journalists working for woman’s magazine are especially encouraged to apply.

The organisers will cover travel, accommodation, most meals and visa costs. Translation from Arabic to English will be provided.

Interested journalists should apply online by Friday 18 November, as places are limited.
