This new series of seminars organised by the European Journalism Centre will discuss, through meetings and debates with representatives of the EU institutions, as well as with outside experts and Brussels-based journalists, the latest developments and the initiatives taken in the field of Common Foreign and Security Policy.

The seminar will especially focus on the areas of conflict prevention and post-conflict support.

If the emergence of a real common European foreign policy is sometimes questioned, the successful military and civilian operations conducted by the EU in numerous regions such as the Balkans, the Palestinian Territories, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, or in Aceh (Indonesia), have demonstrated that those tasks are key strengths of the EU Foreign Policy.
These results suggest therefore that the EU is becoming a significant political-military actor on the international scene which should lead to an intensification of such initiatives.

This seminar will give journalists the opportunity to examine and discuss, apart form the current initiatives and operations conducted in the field, the structures and tools developed by the EU to strengthen its security policy, as well as the challenges it has to face.
