European Bloggers (Un)Conference: East meets West
26 September - 27 September 2007, Amsterdam (Picnic)

The European Journalism Centre invites you to participate in its free, two-day 'European Bloggers (Un)Conference: East meets West', from 27-28 September in Amsterdam. The conference is being held in conjunction with Picnic/Cross Media Week http://www.picnicnetwork.org
We aim to gather bloggers from across the European Union and its neighbour countries to share ideas and discuss new media developments in their respective countries.
Some of the issues we will discuss:
- What is common ground for the bloggers from East and West, what are the vital differences?
- What are best-case examples of bloggers making a difference to communities? What factors contribute to the success and/or failure of individual blogs?
- How can commentators remain safe from political pressures? How can commercial interference be avoided?
- What are the lessons to be learned from the current malaise of mainstream media?
- How will the use of Web 2.0 tools enable bloggers to network in a more productive, and more provocative, way?
We plan to run some elements of the conference in parallel tracks. Please let us know of your preferences so we can tailor the conference to its spaces and speakers. We have four initial tracks:
- 'Citizen Journalism: How and When It works'
- 'Blogging in Dangerous Places: Security Issues'
- 'Future of Media: Old vs. New'
- 'Building Successful Web2.0 applications'
The EJC has set up a wiki where you will find more information http://www.bloggersconference.eu/doku.php?id=start. While participation to the Un(Conference) is free of charge, along with all other Partner Events at PICNIC 07, it is necessary to become a member of the PICNIC Network.
